Fundraising for Freedom Fighters
Effectively confronting threats to our democracy β including poverty, gun violence, mass incarceration, unconstitutional policing, and eroding public trust in government β necessitates redistributing economic power to the historically marginalized and condemned. Our giving has the potential to change the trajectory of the South and to heal this nation. The federal government spends $60B on education, and $45B on housing annually. Americans give $470B to causes, organizations, institutions, and people they care about. We can choose to organize our philanthropy to dismantle broken systems, and inspire a reimagining of what many of us are conditioned to believe is impossible to change.
To fully reimagine our future, we must know the whole truth about our past. Michelle Alexander wrote that βThe land of the free was forged out of slavery and genocide.β White supremacy and systemic racism continue to benefit some, and hurt the majority of others. Join our movement to study and address what is owed to systemically oppressed people in the United States.
